Developmental language disorders place children at risk for long-term social, emotional and academic difficulties (Beitchman, Wilson, Johnson, Atkinson, Young, Adlaf, et al., 2001). Intervention programs vary considerably in terms of service delivery method and may include direct intervention by a speech-language pathologist (for individual children or groups of children) or indirect intervention in which the speech-language pathologist trains a caregiver to conduct intervention (parent training, consultation with early childhood educators).
