The purpose of the Affect-Language Curriculum (ABLC) is to provide families, therapists and teachers a systematic, intensivee program based on both new insights and tradional knowledge of the development of communication and language. The curriculum utilizes affect and engagement with pleasurable back-and-forth reciprocal interactions as the foundation for the development of imitation, pragmatics, and receptive and expressive language.
About the Author
Stanley I. Greenspan, M.D., clinical professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at George Washington University Medical School and Chairman of the Interdisciplinary Council on Developmental and Learning Disorders, is a practicing child psychiatrist, founding president of Zero to Three, and a supervising child psychoanalyst at the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute. A recipient of the American Psychiatric Association’s highest award for child psychiatry research, Dr. Greenspan is the author or editor of over 100 scholarly articles and chapters, as well as 35 influential books. Diane Lewis, CCC/SLP is the director/owner of Communication Enrichment Services, a private practice specializing in serving children with developmental delays including autism spectrum disorders, language learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, oral-motor dysfunction and other syndromes. Ms. Lewis has taught at the George Washington University and Johns Hopkins University and provided training on Oral-Motor Dysfunction, Augmentative Communication and the Severely-profoundly Multiply Handicapped.
